BBC News reports that a series of events to mark the 30th anniversary of his death are to take place, including the launch of an exhibition featuring letters, set lists and posters.
"This exhibit brings together a wide range of material - posters, handbills, hand-written documents and other memorabilia - for the first time," curator Jon Savage said.
Local schoolchildren in Curtis's hometown of Macclesfield will work with the Northern Chamber Orchestra to compose the work.
Meanwhile, festival director Richard de Peyer said: "Macclesfield has never had the opportunity to celebrate Ian Curtis's work in a way which benefits the communities of the town and also attracts music fans from far and wide. This summer seemed like the right moment to do that."
