R.E.M. to release remastered 'Fables'

R.E.M. and Capitol/I.R.S. Records will release a remastered version of the band's 1985 album Fables Of The Reconstruction this summer.

The double disc release will arrive in stores on July 13 to celebrate the LP's 25th anniversary, according to a post on R.E.M.'s official website.

The new version will feature digitally remastered tracks as well as 14 previously unreleased demo recordings and new linear notes.

"It's a personal favourite, and I'm really proud of how strange it is," guitarist Peter Buck writes in the linear notes.

"Nobody but R.E.M. could have made that record."
