The singer had planned to release her 2008 album This Kind of Love exclusively through its stores with the cooperation with the Hear Music programme, reports The AP.
According to the terms of the arrangement, the album would be marketed and distributed at Starbucks locations throughout the US and Canada. However, Simon claims that the chain failed to notify her when it withdrew from Hear Music, leaving This Kind of Love without the extensive promotion that she was promised.
She is suing Starbucks for misrepresentation of contract, which they have disputed, saying that Hear Music is a separate entity and should be held responsible for the breach.
The Los Angeles District Court is expected to make a decision in the upcoming weeks as to whether the case will proceed.
