Simpson, who left the band in 2005, has now refused Matt Willis and James Bourne permission to use the group name, The Sun reports.
A source said: "James was talking about it to pals at Flecking Records. Charlie doesn't want to come back, but he doesn't want Matt and James to do it without him either."
Willis sparked rumours of a comeback last year when he wrote on Twitter that the group had “serious unfinished business” but added that he did not care if his former bandmate returned.
“Charlie was not fun to be in a band with towards the end. And I'm not sure I would want to be in a band again with him,” he added
