The reunited group recently replaced Stewart with Simply Red's Mick Hucknall for a performance at the Sussex Vintage At Goodwood festival in August and an upcoming tour.
However, Wood revealed that he and the band are still on good terms with Stewart, and the singer could join them in the future, reports NME.
"We haven't ruled Rod out. It's just that his schedule is totally crossing over exactly when we wanted him," Wood said.
He added: "We've got Mick Hucknall because his voice is just like Rod's was in the '70s... The door's not closed to Rod, but we're carrying on because it's worth it."
Wood said the band hopes to tour next January and to play Glastonbury and other festivals next year.
