Lady GaGa has previously claimed to be inspired by the new wave group and Mothersbaugh was asked by Metro how he thought Devo affected her output.
"She's part of something we were at the beginning of," he said. "Lots of people in music think visually like she does. She's young and hires good people to do stuff for her.
"I saw her in concert - she was a much better musician than I thought she'd be. Time will tell what comes of it."
Quizzed about the enduring popularity of Devo's 1980 hit 'Whip It', he added: "Is it still popular? Well sorry about that. There are worse things that can happen. I prefer some of our other songs."
