The Nine Inch Nails frontman announced the project today on his official blog.
David Fincher is directing the film, which chronicles the founding and rise of popular social networking site Facebook.
"David Fincher started inquiring about my interest in scoring his upcoming film, The Social Network. Yeah, the movie about the founding of Facebook. I've always loved David's work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story," Reznor posted on his blog.
He continued: "When I actually read the script and realised what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned."
Reznor added: "Speaking of the film... it's really f**king good. And dark!"
The Social Network, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Rashida Jones, opens October 1 in US cinemas.
