The 'Leave (Get Out)' singer had originally finished the follow-up to 2006's The High Road two years ago, but difficulties with her label have pushed the LP back numerous times.
JoJo has now revealed that she has been working on new tracks during the hiatus, and said it looks likely that the LP - called All I Want Is Everything - will finally see a release this year.
She told Rap Up: "It's been a really strange experience. Things have been coming together finally! I've been working with some really great people. It's not like the album was shelved and locked away for a year - I haven't stopped being in the studio recording and writing.
"It seems like things are moving forward and there will be a single out pretty shortly. We're at that process where we're ready to mix and choose the songs and master."
On the sound of the record, she said: "I would describe the album as being pretty eclectic - more so than my first two albums. There's more energy to it.
"There's more upbeat songs and there is a common thread throughout the whole thing because I basically co-wrote every song. It's very transparent, it's very honest."
JoJo also revealed that she has worked with Danja, who has collaborated with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, and Jim Beanz, who produced the majority of Nelly Furtado's Loose.
A viral video for song a called 'In The Dark', which JoJo describes as "edgy", will soon be released on to the internet.
