The Florence and the Machine frontwoman, who was playing a gig at London's Somerset House, made the announcement before playing a new song called 'Strangers and Chants'.
Music Rooms quotes her as saying: "I just got weirdly emotional backstage. I'm sorry.
"This is my last London show in a while. I've got to go away and write some new songs. But this is a taster. It's called 'Strangeness and Charm'."
Welch was said to be visibly upset, wiping tears from her eyes as she made the announcement.
She has previously claimed that her new album will take more risks.
