Aussie festival won't return to Byron
The Australian music festival, which has traditionally been held in Byronshire, was relocated this year after organisers were denied permission to use a new venue at Yelgun.
Youth Minister Kate Ellis has now revealed that $3 million (£1.73 million) set aside for the event will be spent on upgrading sewerage at the new Woodford site.
She told ABC: "I am certainly heading to Byron in the coming days and I am quite open to speaking with locals about their needs but our commitment yesterday was to the Woodford site and that's where it will remain.
"These are festivals which are attended by people right around the nation and indeed right around the world.
"So they'll all benefit from having the sort of infrastructure in place that can cater for these crowds. Whether they live in marginal seats, safe seats or in different countries... they come here to enjoy world-class festivals."
