The 'Stronger' singer, who is putting the finishing touches to his as-yet-untitled fifth studio record, explained that he is excited about releasing a positive LP.
He told Rolling Stone: "I feel like I can be a vessel for goodwill and energy.
"Everyone says great art comes from pain, but I think my greatest art comes from excitement and joy. It's [a] completely different perspective."
He added: "It was an important thing... not to be limited by the artform of rap but to bring rap to another level."
The magazine also described West's new material as "some of Kanye's most adventurous and experimental music yet".
West recently wrote a series of drunken tweets that revealed his new record will feature Nicki Minaj and Wu-Tang Clan's RZA.
The album is due for release on September 14.
