That track performed by Alex Warren and Terema Wainwright was devised by MJ Delaney and based on Jay-Z and Alicia Keys's 'Empire State Of Mind'. It attracted over 2.5 million hits last month when it was uploaded to YouTube.
GLC have now posted their own version of the hip-hop smash, mocking Delaney for her lack of Newport links and generic Welsh references in the rap.
'Newport State Of Mind (You're Not From Newport)' features the chorus: "You're not from Newport/ You've probably never been their either / I bet you a fiver."
A statement from the band to Sky News read: "The city of a thousand broken dreams... where choice is limited, where your missus is a nutter, where a different class of alcoholic drinks in Wetherspoon's from 10am.
"It might not be much but at least it's ours. A place where fantasy and reality gently touch each other's hands like brand new lovers.
"Newport: a town built on football violence, out of concrete and steel. Newport: my home town. Where you learn the hard way but the right way."
Delaney told the news organisation that she was "flattered" by the comeback video from GLC.
