The band abandoned several of the tracks planned for the record before teaming up with Ross Robinson to complete the follow-up to 2007's Myths Of The Near Future.
Asked about the 'missing record' by Zane Lowe for his website, keyboard player/singer James Righton said: "Folky, it's not a record for a start, it's about five - it's an EP - which will see the light of day at some point.
"It's a lot more complex, a lot more considered as well. There's a lot of notes, a lot of chords and lots of layered vocals."
Bassist Jamie Reynolds added: "It's kind of slow. There's a waltz on it which is great, like a seven-minute waltz. We've taken tracks and taken all the music out of it and replaced it with drones. It's very drudgey and slow and beautiful and odd."
Asked about why those sessions were not eventually used on the upcoming Surfing The Void, Reynolds added: "The band had only ever written 15 songs and had to go away and write songs and I think that we were just perfecting our craft and learning to write songs - figuring out how to write songs, write lyrics.
"It was a time, having only written a small batch, to concentrate on what we were good at and trying to figure that out, but without any consideration of making a pop record."
