According to NME, audiences turned up at the Nissan Juke Arena on the festival's Chelmsford site expecting to watch the reality TV star after seeing 'TBC' in the stage's schedule, as well as an advert for Andre's tour on the big screen moments earlier.
Ryder told the crowd: "This isn't a Happy Mondays gig, we're putting them to be through a few months, this is Shaun William Ryder."
He was met with chants of "Who are you?", to which he answered: "Are my ears f**ked, or are you shouting New Order?"
The star continued with his gig, playing songs from across his career, including 'Hallelujah' and 'Reverend Black Grape'.
