In the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, REMG Entertainment claims that the rapper/actor backed out of his agreement to perform a concert at the Kool Haus in Toronto in February.
REMG says that Mos Def was paid a $12,500 (£8,056) deposit for the show, but he cancelled the gig 24 hours before it was scheduled to begin and has yet to pay back the deposit.
The promoter is seeking $57,500 (£37,061) to cover the deposit plus "lost customers, sales and goodwill", according to legal documents filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Mos Def has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
