The Swedish-born singer sang a cover of the song before Bjork was named winner of the prestigious prize along with composer Ennio Morricone.
The award is typically shared each year by a pop artist and classical musician.
The AP reports that Bjork was honoured to receive the award and that it "tickled her vanity" to be held in the same regard as previous winners such as Elton John, Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell.
'Hyperballad' was one of her most commercially successful hits, charting at number eight in the UK in 1996.
Both winners received the prize of £87,000.
