Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis has claimed that the band won't mind if they don't win the Barclaycard Mercury Prize next week.

According to the Daily Star, the singer insisted that simply being nominated for the award was a privilege.

He said: "If we do win I'm gonna spend it on a no-expense-spared holiday to the Caribbean, which would be awesome.

"It's probably not the right attitude to have but I don't really care about winning as I think the nomination is kind of winning in its own right.

"I think The xx will probably win but I'd really like it if Wild Beasts do as they're a great band and I’m friends with them.

"Everyone on the shortlist is pretty good and Dizzee Rascal in particular really deserves the nomination as he works so hard and his new tunes are incredible."

Speaking of last year's winner Speech Debelle, who failed to launch a successful career after receiving the prize, he said: "If we do get it I don’t think it will damage us because we’re already established. With Speech, no-one knew who she was."

He added: "We’re performing a few songs on the night, probably Spanish Sahara and a few others, and going to have a good night whatever happens."
