Yahoo reports that during the band's gig in Houston, Texas Weiland began discussing his well-publicised drug and alcohol addictions.
"The 8th of December will be the time when I stopped doing dope!" Weiland reportedly told the crowd.
"I started drinking again. My brother died, I got divorced from my wife, and my whole world basically spun around," he continued, before declaring that he was going to begin to look after himself.
It was subsequently announced that Stone Temple Pilots have now postponed twelve tour dates, but are to resume touring in October.
The band released a new album in May after reuniting in 2008 following a five-year split.
