The singer said that she was not influenced by music from the decade and put the comparisons down to the record's "live" sound.
"I didn't pick the '80s at all. I was born in the '80s, so it's not a particular time that I even remember well!" she told Bang Showbiz.
"What I think its people are saying '80s because it's got the live instruments on it, live drum kit, live brass, live lead guitar, live pianos, all that stuff, so it's got that older feel.
"The '80s to me feels like a Cyndi Lauper and stuff like that. I didn't ever intend to go '80s."
Coyle also revealed that she is keen to duet with Cee Lo Green on one of her self-penned tracks that didn't make the final cut of her LP.
"Do you know who I love?" she added. "Cee Lo Green, I'd love to sing with him on a song that I wrote.
"Although it would hopefully not feature as much profanity as his recent song. But he just has a voice that really captures me."
Coyle releases 'Insatiable' on November 1.
