Brit Award organisers were "stunned" after Paul McCartney refused an outstanding contribution gong.
64-year-old Sir Paul apparently insisted that he is still at his creative best, and does not want to appear past it.
"We were absolutely stunned," a Brits spokesman said. "Sir Paul felt that if he accepted the gong, people would assume it was the end of his career when he is feeling more creative than ever."
