Opera House to be renamed after singer?

Australian politicians have called for one of the theatres within Sydney Opera House to be renamed after the late Dame Joan Sutherland.

The soprano, who retired from the stage 20 years ago, died at her home in Switzerland earlier this week aged 83.

According to the ABC, New South Wales Opposition leader Barry O'Farrell said that if the state's Premier does not act on the renaming suggestion, he will definitely follow it through if elected into the position next March.

O'Farrell has stated that the building played an important part in Sutherland's singing career.
