The musician, who released his latest album Mixed Race last month, told BBC 6 Music that he had recently met up with the group.
He said: "It was a good vibe. But it's [been] a long time. I get bored of things really quickly. Now I'm into it, but I'm already looking [ahead] to my new record."
He continued: "Time passes, people go separate ways. The door's not shut. They're a busy band, they sell more records than me. The best thing would be to start doing it now."
Tricky is due to begin his latest European tour to promote the album, starting in Dublin on Sunday.
