Speaking to Reuters, the former Roxy Music frontman noted that his latest album fulfilled his desire to create new music after spending the past several years recording covers of songs written by other artists.
"I hope it is a return to form. I think it is," he said. "I very much wanted to make a musical statement again after the last album. After that record I felt it was time to do an album of my own music."
The singer further remarked that even after 40 years in the music business, he is still driven to explore musical innovations.
He explained: "You always hope there's going to be some combination of sounds that you haven't heard before, that you haven't made yourself before."
Ferry's latest LP features collaborations with Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, Groove Armada, Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood and the Scissor Sisters.
Olympia is released on October 25.
