Hegarty, who fronts Antony and the Johnsons, has claimed that he suffered from exhaustion following his tour for The Crying Light in 2009.
"This last year I haven't travelled at all," Hegarty explained to The Independent. "Does that mean I'm never going to tour again? I don't really know."
He continued: "It took me a year to recover - it wrings out the marrow from your bones," before revealing that he took a year off following the last tour to remain in his Manhattan home.
The band released their fourth studio album Swanlights this month but are yet to announce a supporting tour to accompany the release.
