Alesha Dixon has insisted that Roll Deep were "joking" about collaborating with The Saturdays on their new single.

Dixon, who features on the grime collective's new single 'Take Control', said that the group were only "winding everyone up" when they announced they were working with the girl group.

Asked why the group changed their mind on the duet, Dixon told X Magazine: "They were just joking. [Roll Deep's Wiley] was winding everyone up. Because he... yeah."

On whether Roll Deep would consider working with the band, she said: "Well, I don't think he would. I can't speak for him, but I know that was a wind-up."

The 'Drummer Boy' singer also revealed that she brings her own "energy" to their new single, adding: "That's what I have in common with them: energy. I try to behave myself in everything that I do.

"I only ever do things that I enjoy. It's the rule of my life."

'Take Control' is released November 1.
