The singer claimed that the new LP takes the group's sound in a different direction which may surprise many of their fans.
"It's not a guitar-based record, we've been into vintage keyboards and playing with that palette," Gibbard told SPIN. "We're not adding guitars because people will be expecting them, I'm so proud of this album that at this point I don't care if people don't like it."
Gibbard also explained that his lyrics have developed since Deathcab's last album Narrow Stair in 2008, admitting that there had been "a level of self-loathing in [the LP] that I'm a bit embarrassed about now".
The band's seventh album is reportedly almost completed and is expected to be released in early 2011.
