The former Eurythmics singer told Reuters that getting in touch with her feelings about the festive season helped her to create a more intimate sound for A Christmas Cornucopia.
"I remember hearing all these beautiful Christmas carols in choir when I was six," she said. "I just wanted to do it - I'd held onto this idea for many years."
Lennox further explained that the album features new instrumentation on traditional carols such as 'Silent Night' and 'The First Noel'.
She continued: "I loved doing this. My heart and soul are in the instrumentation, the interpretations and the arrangements.
"Even when you make music as I've been doing all these years, you just hold your breath and hope everybody's going to fall in love with it."
A Christmas Cornucopia is released on November 15 in the UK and November 16 in the US.
