The follow-up to her award-winning record Fearless topped the Billboard album chat this week after selling more than one million copies in one week.
In a message posted on her Twitter account, the country star said: "I... Can't... Believe... This... You guys have absolutely lit up my world. Thank you."
Swift's record, which was two years in the making, sold 1,047,000 copies in its first week, which was the most sold in a single week since the release of 50 Cent's album The Massacre back in March 2005.
She is the 16th artist in Billboard history to sell more than one million copies of an album in just one week. Other artists to have passed that mark include N Sync, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Eminem and Lil Wayne.
