The Fall Out Boy bassist picked newcomer Bebe Rexha as the lead vocalist for the group, but reports had suggested that Simpson-Wentz was previously in the frame.
"[Ashlee] is such a great artist, and we made a deal with ourselves that we'd be supportive of each other," Wentz told X magazine. "But we get pitched reality shows together all the time, and it could feel artificial if you open your life to a lot more.
"We share a son, we write songs together to sing to him, we help each other. But she wasn't ever going to sing in the band."
Black Cards recently concluded a five-date tour across Europe, including three gigs in the UK. Their debut album is expected to be released in early 2011.
