Cheryl Cole reigns atop UK album chart

By
Cheryl Cole 'Messy Little Raindrops'
Cheryl Cole has fought off competition from a flurry of new entries to secure her second UK number one solo album.

The X Factor judge's Messy Little Raindrops topped the chart ahead of Bon Jovi's second Greatest Hits collection and the debut album from critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Rumer, entitled Seasons Of My Soul.

Meanwhile, music veteran Rod Stewart arrives at five with Fly Me To The Moon, the fifth release from his Great American Songbook series, and Jamiroquai secures his eighth UK top ten album with Rock Dust Light Star at seven.

Directly behind is the 34th top 40 album of Neil Diamond's career, entitled Dreams, while Peter Andre returns to the chart at ten with Accelerate.

Other debuts just missing out on a spot in the top ten include Ne-Yo's Libra Scale at 11, the reissued Band On The Run by Paul McCartney & Wings at 17 and Elaine Paige's ...And Friends at 18.

However, the glut of new entries has dramatic repercussions for X Factor reigning champ Joe McElderry, as his debut album Wide Awake slips 17 places from two to 19 in its second week of release.

The top ten in full:

1. (-) Cheryl Cole: 'Messy Little Raindrops'
2. (-) Bon Jovi: 'Greatest Hits'
3. (-) Rumer: 'Seasons Of My Soul'
4. (1) Kings of Leon: 'Come Around Sundown'
