'Hold My Hand' was recorded by the pair in 2007 and an unfinished version leaked onto the internet the following year. Akon recently completed production work on the track after a handwritten note belonging to Jackson's estate revealed that the late singer intended it to be the lead single on his next project.
"The world was not ready to hear 'Hold My Hand' when it leaked a couple years ago," Akon commented in a press release. "We were devastated about it, but its time has definitely come. Now in its final state, it has become an incredible, beautiful, anthemic song. I'm so proud to have had the chance to work with Michael, one of my all time idols."
'Hold My Hand' will premiere on the official Michael Jackson website on Monday and receive its full release on November 28.
It will be followed on December 13 by Jackson's upcoming posthumous album Michael, the tracklisting for which has now been revealed. The LP comprises ten new songs including 'Breaking News', which has been streaming on the Jackson website since Monday, and further collaborations with 50 Cent and Lenny Kravitz.
