The 'Teardrops On My Guitar' star had been playing the piano and singing her own track 'Back To December' surrounded by an orchestra when she broke into the hit song by OneRepublic.
The country star scooped the award for 'Favourite Female Artist - Country' at the star-studded ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday.
She later took to her Twitter account to write: "Guys... Thank you for the AMA. I'm so thrilled and thankful. I'm so excited, I think you've cured my jet lag!"
'My December' appears on Swift's new album Speak Now, which topped the Billboard Chart recently after selling more than one million copies in its first week.
