The 'Stronger' star, who releases My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy internationally this week, announced the gig two hours before he took to the stage.
Contact Music reports that tickets, priced at $100 (£67), sold out in two minutes for the show at New York's Bowery Ballroom.
West went onstage at midnight and performed his new album from start to finish, including the singles 'Power' and 'Runaway'.
Rapper Nicki Minaj also made a guest appearance on stage to perform 'Monster', West's all-star collaboration that also features Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Bon Iver.
Celebrity guests at the event included music executive Lyor Cohen and comedian Aziz Ansari.
It was recently reported that West performed an 'in-flight rap' on a plane bound for New York.
