The singer, who has released four solo albums away from the Spice Girls, is said to be writing songs with ex-Razorlight drummer-turned-solo singer Andy Burrows, the Daily Star reports.
A source said: "Mel has been really impressed with Andy’s solo album and loves the stripped-back simple feel of it.
"She thinks he’s really talented and they’re on the same page when it comes to songwriting."
The 'I Turn To You' star, who has notched up ten solo top 40 hits, revealed last year that her next album will have "big rock numbers".
