The 'Rocket Man' performed his classic hits as well as tracks from his latest album The Union in the capital's Union Chapel, where guests included Andy Roddick, Richard Curtis and Manchester electro-pop duo Hurts.
Contact Music reports that John broke the venue's performance curfew after playing an hour-long gig as opposed to the scheduled half-hour.
He also received a standing ovation for every number at the event, which was hosted by Absolute Radio, on a set-list that included 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' and 'Your Song'.
The gig will be broadcast on the radio station in full on Boxing Day.
The star recently revealed that he "can't write pop music anymore".
