Martin, Bieber shortlisted for Oscar

Artists including Chris Martin, Justin Bieber and Avril Lavigne are among those shortlisted for Best Original Song for 83rd Academy Awards, it has been announced.

The official website of the awards revealed the 41-strong list, which also included songs performed by Eddie Vedder and Randy Newman.

Coldplay's Chris Martin wrote the song 'Me and Tennessee' for wife Gwyneth Paltrow's latest film Country Strong.

Other nominations include Avril Lavigne's 'Alice' from Alice in Wonderland, Justin Bieber's 'Never Say Never' from The Karate Kid and Randy Newman's 'We Belong Together from Toy Story 3.

The final nominees will be announced on January 25.
