The singer, who released her debut album The Family Jewels earlier this year under the guise Marina and the Diamonds, admitted that she is nervous about the move but believes it is the "right time".
"America is a big old country and I have a lot to prove. I am going to go there next October for a year and a half," she told the Daily Record.
"Now is the time to do it when I am young and I haven't got babies or other grown-up responsibilities."
Asked where she would like to live in the US, she replied: "New York has a fantastic energy. LA is too spread out for me. I can't drive, so basically it is New York or nowhere.
"Over there, the vision of pop and what gets played on the radio is really narrow. Every fan I have out there is due to them catching on to me over the internet.
"There are people there who have waited three years to see me. It is happening really quickly there."
Diamandis's debut peaked on the UK album chart at number five and spawned three top 40 hits, including 'Hollywood' and 'Oh No!'
