The Australian blues and roots festival, which takes place in Byron Bay every year, will now be staged over six days this April and will be headlined by US musician Bob Dylan.
Local councillor Graeme Faulkner told the ABC: "I'm sure that there'll be those for it and there'll be those against it.
"What I can say is, the council has considered this in accordance with the requirements set down under the legislation - the planning legislation - and they have made that decision."
Elvis Costello, BB King and Grace Jones will also perform at the festival.
