According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weir will take the stage at Park City, Utah's ASCAP café on January 23 for a one-off gig to promote the festival's opening movie The Music Never Stopped.
Director Jim Kohlberg's The Music Never Stopped tells the story of a father (J.K. Simmons) who strives to connect with his brain-damaged teenage son (Lou Taylor Pucci) by listening to one of the boy's favourite bands, The Grateful Dead.
Lou Reed will also hold a concert to kick off the festivities on the same evening at Park City's Sundance House.
Sterling Van Wagenen founded the Sundance Film Festival in 1978 as an outlet to publicise independent film.
