Prestwich, who was the drummer of Cold Chisel together with Barnes, Ian Moss, Phil Small and Don Walker, passed away on Sunday after failing to regain consciousness from surgery on a recently-discovered brain tumour.
Barnes wrote on his Twitter page: "Dear Steve, I will miss your friendship. 40 years happy and sad. But nothing as sad as losing you. I am a better person for knowing you."
He also performed 'When The War Is Over' in tribute to Prestwich during a concert in Mount Eliza on Monday night.
