Alex Kirst, who played behind Iggy Pop during a career which also included time with rebellious early '90s rockers The Nymphs, died on January 13 as a result of what appears to be a hit-and-run.
According to the AP, Police have described the incident as a case of Kirst walking along a desert road in California when he was hit by a vehicle - thought to be an SUV - which did not slow down as it approached the musician.
The authorities were informed shortly before midnight, when a call was placed by a person who assumed Kirst was drunkenly sprawled on the roadside.
As part of The Trolls, Kirst played on Iggy Pop albums Beat 'Em Up and Skull Ring.
