Exclusive: Adele wrote song about "p*ss-taking" boyfriend

By
Adele has revealed that a song from her new album was inspired by a boyfriend who "took the p*ss" out of her.

The singer's feelings about the "exploitative" partner were so strong that they burst out during a spontaneous songwriting session with Eg White, the Ivor Novello winner with whom she penned her 2008 breakthrough hit 'Chasing Pavements'.

"He played a chord and then I just started singing it," Adele recalled. "It's about my devotion to someone and them not caring and taking the p*ss out of me and kind of exploiting me I guess.

"Literally, as I sang it, the lyrics happened. It didn't come from me sitting there and writing about it. Imagine me sitting down with someone and saying, 'Look, this really isn't working because you're making me look like a mug…'

"It was literally like that, but in song - it was like something out of West Side Story or something!"
