The composer told The Hollywood Reporter that it feels "completely surreal" to have been nominated for the 'Best Original Score' honour.
"It was panic this morning because somehow my internet and TV had a complete media blackout at the crucial moment, but it turned out all was well in the end," he said.
Reznor added that he's ultimately most proud to have been associated with The Social Network's director David Fincher and the film's cast and crew.
He explained: "I'm just very proud to be involved with a film of this calibre and working with these people. We got so close to this film - I've seen it hundreds of times and I still really love it.
"I didn't realise it would resonate with people as much as it has. It's been amazing and flattering to see what's happened."
The musician has previously won two Grammy Awards for his work with the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails.
