The singer passed away last Wednesday in Sherman Oaks, CA from complications related to a stroke, reports Rolling Stone.
Horton was a founding member of the Motown girl group and sang lead vocals on the 1961 hit 'Please Mr. Postman'.
The singer formed the act that would become The Marvelettes with her fellow high school glee club members when she was 15.
The group were signed to Motown Records after a 1961 talent show. They were the first girlband on the label and paved the way for The Supremes, The Ronettes and Martha & The Vandellas.
Horton performed lead vocals on several of The Marvelettes' hit songs, including ‘Too Many Fish in the Sea', ‘Playboy' and ‘Beechwood 4-5789'.
