Debbie Gibson has admitted that she believes Britney Spears's past meltdown has been good for her career.

The actress and singer told PopEater that while she experiences her own issues "in private", she ultimately feels that Spears has bounced back well from her troubles which began in 2007.

"It was a great thing for her next hit record," she said.

"People were like, 'She's back. She's thriving again!' And then they want her to melt down again. And they want to lift her up again. I heard a great phrase once that goes, 'America loves a good comeback'."

Gibson added: "I had my meltdowns then and still have them now, but I just do them in private."
