The French DJ, whose latest album One Love topped the charts in 2009, said that struggling companies should give fans free music or videos instead of wasting money on fighting internet piracy.
"I have never been very nervous about online piracy," the Daily Star quotes him as saying.
"Sometimes you have to give away content, even if it isn't bringing you money. It doesn't have to be music, it can be videos, images and so on."
The 'Memories' star also suggested social network sites as a cheap and easy way to plug acts.
