Adam Lambert has admitted that he was "surprised" when he was told he had been nominated for a Grammy.

The singer told CBS's The Talk that he was in Paris when his manager woke him to say he had been recognised in the 'Best Male Pop Vocal' category for his track 'Whataya Want From Me'.

"I was more than surprised," he said during an appearance on Wednesday's show. "I didn't even know there were nominations coming up! I didn't hear anything about the Grammys; I wasn't thinking about it."

Asked for how he felt about the honour, he replied: "I felt amazing. I was like, 'Whaaaat?!' My voice was higher than any song I'd ever sung. To me, it was at the end of a really long, amazing tour. I'd just finished my last show in London, it had been six months on the road - pretty wild - and it just feels like it paid off. It feels great."

He faces competition in the category from Michael Bublé's 'Haven't Met You Yet', Bruno Mars's 'Just The Way You Are', Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' and John Mayer's 'Half Of My Heart'.

Lambert was on the show to announce the release of his upcoming concert DVD, Glam Nation Live, which is available from March 22.

He previously suggested that being recognised by the Grammys could help his "credibility" as a recording artist, and "perhaps help fade some of the stigma that comes from rising to fame on a competition show".

The Grammy Awards will be held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on February 13, airing live on CBS from 8/7c.
