The singer has scaled down her musical career over the past few years to spend time with her family, but claimed that she is now ready to begin working on some new songs.
"I would like to have a record out," Hill admitted to Billboard. "But it hasn't been the right thing yet.
"I don't want it to be just another record. It's a lot of work to support a record, so I just want it to be really great.
"I want it to represent where I am as a woman," the singer added.
Hill's last studio album Fireflies topped the Billboard 200 in 2005, following which she has released both a greatest hits compilation and a special holiday album.
The country music star also said that she refuses to put a timescale on her new material, claiming that she will release more details later this spring.
