At Sunday's ceremony, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride, Yolanda Adams and Florence Welch performed a medley of Franklin's hits.
During an appearance on BET's 106 & Park, Barrino expressed frustration that she was not asked to offer her own homage to her 'idol'.
"You know I wasn't at the Grammys last night. I'm kind of going through my own little thing," she said. "Last night they were honouring someone who is my idol, Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favourite."
The Fantasia For Real star added: "I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage, so I kind of did my own little thing last night."
While competing on American Idol in 2004, Barrino's performance of Franklin's 'Chain of Fools' secured her a place in the finals. She later went on to become the reality competition's third season winner.
It was reported earlier this week that Franklin 'loved' the Grammys salute to her lengthy career.
