It was previously reported that the Foo Fighters' new LP features Novoselic on the track 'I Should Have Known', while former Nirvana producer Butch Vig helmed the album's recording sessions.
Speaking to MTV News, Grohl suggested that he enjoyed working with his two old friends for the first time in two decades.
"The three of us haven't been in a studio together since 1991," he said. "Musically, it sounded great and it felt natural."
Although the rocker affirmed that he still felt "a real connection" with Novoselic, he admitted that they didn't reminisce about old times.
"We didn't have enough time," he said.
Foo Fighters formed only months after the death of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain in 1994 and the band have since notched five platinum-selling albums.
Their seventh studio record Wasting Light is scheduled to be released on April 12.
